LSU Health Sciences Center at Shreveport is a thriving and expanding academic center for research, training, and health care delivery that is located within InterTech Science Park . The Health Sciences Center is an integral part of the Louisiana State University System, and is comprised of the School of Graduate Studies, School of Medicine, School of Allied Health Professions, and University Hospital. There are over 800 faculty members and 750 medical, research and allied professional students in training. The 436 bed hospital serves as a tertiary care referral center for the entire state, with over 22,000 yearly admission, 65,000 emergency room visits, 30,000 general medicine clinical visits, and 24,500 subspecialty clinical visits.

Annually, the 90-acre main campus conducts over $25 million of extramural research and offers opportunities for clinical interactions with the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center, Center of Excellence for Arthritis and Rheumatology, the Osteoporosis Center, the Gene Therapy Program, a Regional Burn Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center, Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit, Organ Transplantation Group (heart, kidney, liver), Positron Emission Tomography Facility, Gamma Knife Imaging Center, Human Retrovirus (AIDS) Clinic, Hepatitis C Research and Treatment Center, 6 Intensive Care Units, and some 65 outpatient and medical specialty clinics. The hospital is designated as a regional Biodefense Care Center in the advent of a bioterrorism attack, and the Emergency Care Department has 48 isolation beds in the event of an infectious disease outbreak, and is equipped for decontamination of patients exposed to radioactivity materials. Science Park tenants have access to LSU Health Sciences Center clinical and research facilities, faculty and support infrastructure.
