Virginia K. Shehee Biomedical Research Institute (BRI)
Built in 1994, the BRI is a 160,000 square foot, $38 million research facility with 56 wet laboratories and an animal facility. Over 240 investigators from LSUHSC conduct basic research in inflammation and immunology, ischemic disorders, cellular communication, signal transduction, neurosciences, and alcohol and drug abuse.
The BRI contains technician staffed core equipment laboratories available to InterTech clients on a fee-for-use basis. Research equipment includes: Automated Cellular Imaging System (AC), Confocal Microscopy (CM), DNA Array (Chip) Analysis (DC), Flow Cytometry (FC), Fluorescence Microscopy (FM), Laser Capture Micro-dissection (LC), Mass Spectrometry (MS), Real-Time PCR (PC), an animal care facility, and an animal imaging center that offers micro-positron emission tomography (microPET), micro-computed assisted tomography (microCT), and optical imaging including in vivo chemiluminescence and fluorescence imaging capabilities.
